The command for displaying your ip from the command prompt is called ifconfig. 

ifconfig

Typing that will display a list of all network cards and associated info such as inet or your ip address, netmask, broadcast address. it will also display ipv6 info. 

eth0: is your network interface that your actual wired network would be connected to if you are using one

lo: is the loopback adapter which is a virtual card usually with the address 127.0.0.1

wlan0: is your wireless adapter.

Note you can have more than one ethernet or wireless lan adapter. the number on the end will change with each. eth1, eth2 etc.

Switches

-a will display all adapters even if they are inactive. just using ifconfig will no display inactive ones. 

ifconfig with the name of an adapter will display info that that adapter only.

ifconfig eht0

you can also enable or disable an adapter like this

sudo ifconfig eth1 up
sudo ifconfig eth1 down

To assign a static ip

sudo ifconfig eth0 192.68.1.99

to assign netmask

sudo ifconfig eth1 netmask 255.255.255.0

These command can be combined

sudo ifconfig eth0 192.168.1.67 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.34
